Commission Story: A Coastal View for a New Home

When Sarah and James moved to their new home on the Yorkshire coast, they knew exactly what the living room needed: a large-scale oil painting of the view from their window.

Our initial consultation took place over video call. They showed me the view — a sweeping panorama of cliffs, sea, and sky that changed character with every shift in the weather.

We agreed on a 120cm x 80cm canvas that would sit above the fireplace. The palette would echo the natural tones of their room: soft greys, deep blues, and warm sand tones.

I visited the location to paint several plein air studies, experiencing the view first-hand at different times of day. These studies informed the final composition and helped me capture the specific quality of light that Sarah and James loved most.

The finished piece was delivered six weeks later. Seeing it hung in its intended home, perfectly in harmony with the space and the view beyond the window, was one of the most rewarding moments of my career.
